HAWTHORN stars Shaun Burgoyne and Grant Birchall will play their first matches of 2013 in Tasmania on Saturday afternoon.

Burgoyne has been named for his first match after undergoing post-season surgery on his knee, while Birchall has not played for the Hawks since the Grand Final.

Injury-plagued midfielder and 2008 premiership player Xavier Ellis will also make his first appearance against the Tigers at Aurora Stadium.

In further good news for the Hawks, small forward Paul Puopolo has recovered from bone bruising in his knee and will play after missing just one week with the injury.

Puopolo hurt his knee in the Club’s opening NAB Cup hit out against Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium two weeks ago.

Star full forward Lance Franklin is among those who won’t travel to Tasmania, with the forward having played two NAB Cup matches already.

Coach Alastair Clarkson and his team have again selected a crop of youngsters to showcase their talents at the level, with Jordan Kelly, Taylor Duryea, Amos Frank, Derick Wanganeen and Jed Anderson all named in the team.

Hawthorn take on Richmond at Aurora Stadium at 1.10pm on Saturday.
